Una nuova spedizione sull’Himalaya per il Club Alpino Italiano (CAI) di Biella, dopo quella dell’estate 2024 che ha raggiunto la vetta del K2. Questa volta la destinazione è l’Annapurna, una delle vette più temibili e impegnative dell’Himalaya con i suoi 8.091 metri, con l’obiettivo di aprire una nuova via sullo sperone Nord-Ovest. Una missione scelta anche per completare il sogno del biellese Guido Machetto, pioniere dell’alpinismo moderno, che nel 1973 aveva provato l’impresa senza però riuscirci.

La spedizione, partita il 15 marzo con una durata prevista di circa 40 giorni e denominata Limit Project X Annapurna, è guidata da Gian Luca Cavalli, accademico del CAI e istruttore nazionale della Scuola di Alpinismo “Guido Machetto” di Biella, già a capo della spedizione al K2 nel 2024. Accanto a lui ci sono Cesar Rosales, guida andina di origine peruviana e biellese d’adozione, in quanto alpinisticamente formatasi grazie alla guida Enrico Rosso nell’ambito del progetto di cooperazione internazionale Moto Grosso, e Donatella Barbera, medico della spedizione. Come per il K2, anche questa spedizione è sostenuta dal gruppo Sella come sponsor insieme a Allianz Bank.

Questa impresa nasce per realizzare il sogno di Guido Machetto, alpinista biellese che negli anni 1973 tentò l’ascesa all’Annapurna. Il CAI Biella, attraverso questa sfida, vuole onorare la sua memoria, rinnovando l’impegno di una comunità che fa dell’alpinismo un elemento identitario e culturale.

A supportare il racconto di questa avventura ci sarà il filmmaker Matteo Zin con il suo team, mentre Yuri Palma seguirà la spedizione fino al campo 1, documentando i momenti più intensi dell’ascensione.

Il progetto è sostenuto anche da LIMIT, realtà biellese che si occupa di innovazione in ambito riabilitativo e sportivo. Sul sito www.limit.center, si potranno trovare aggiornamenti costanti, fotografie e video esclusivi.

Un elemento simbolico importante accompagna gli alpinisti: una miniatura dell’opera “Unione Olimpica” dell’artista biellese Paolo Barichello. Questa opera rappresenta i valori di inclusione, collaborazione e fratellanza tra popoli, che i protagonisti porteranno fino alle pendici dell’Annapurna. La miniatura non tornerà in Italia ma sarà donata alla comunità nepalese di Waku dove è viva la memoria di Martino Borrione, delegato del Soccorso alpino biellese e fondatore della Onlus Bi-Nepal. Con questa associazione, negli anni, sono stati fatti significativi sforzi per dare la possibilità ai giovani del posto di costruirsi un’istruzione.

Il percorso non è solo fisico, ma anche carico di significati. La partenza è stata preceduta da una serata commemorativa in memoria di Guido Machetto, durante la quale la sorella Carla Machetto ha consegnato i suoi ricordi alla Fondazione Sella, un gesto simbolico che sottolinea il legame tra memoria storica e nuove imprese.
