Alcuni dei sistemi informatici che negli anni hanno supportato le attività di trading e post-trading del gruppo Sella trovano oggi una nuova collocazione all’interno del Museo del Computer di Camburzano, nel biellese. Il gruppo ha infatti donato una serie di apparati IT storici provenienti dall’area Treasury & Financial Markets, contribuendo alla conservazione di un patrimonio tecnologico che racconta l’evoluzione dell’informatica applicata al settore finanziario.

Si tratta di sistemi che hanno accompagnato per lungo tempo lo sviluppo delle piattaforme interne di negoziazione e che, prima della dismissione, erano ancora conservati negli armadi rack della sala server come testimonianza di una fase cruciale di trasformazione digitale. Il progressivo rinnovamento delle infrastrutture e la necessità di ospitare tecnologie di ultima generazione hanno offerto l’occasione per valorizzare questi apparati non come semplice hardware obsoleto, ma come oggetti di rilevanza storica e culturale.

La maggior parte delle macchine donate appartiene alla famiglia HP ProLiant, server prodotti tra il 2008 e il 2012 che per molti anni hanno rappresentato uno standard di riferimento nei data center in termini di affidabilità e prestazioni. Accanto a questi trovano spazio anche due server Sun Fire T2000 del 2005, oggi sempre più rari, che segnano una tappa importante nell’evoluzione dei sistemi Unix e delle architetture multi‑threaded. Completano la donazione diversi server 4U a quattro socket — una configurazione ormai poco diffusa nei data center moderni — e tre sistemi di storage HP MSA, per una capacità complessiva di circa 10 terabyte, utilizzati in passato per l’archiviazione di dati in contesti applicativi critici.

Per i dispositivi ritenuti di maggiore interesse dal museo, il gruppo Sella ha effettuato una cancellazione sicura dei dati, preservando l’integrità dei dischi per consentirne un eventuale riutilizzo in ambito didattico, espositivo o dimostrativo. Su altre macchine è stato invece eseguito il degauss, un processo di smagnetizzazione che rende i supporti inutilizzabili, permettendone esclusivamente l’esposizione statica.

Il Museo del Computer, attivo da quasi quarant’anni e oggi la più grande struttura museale dedicata all’informatica in Europa, ospita una collezione di circa 30.000 apparecchiature, oltre 5.000 volumi e 10.000 numeri di riviste specialistiche. Concepi​to come uno spazio interattivo, è visitabile su appuntamento e permette ai visitatori di accendere, utilizzare e comprendere da vicino molte delle tecnologie che hanno segnato l’evoluzione digitale degli ultimi decenni.
