Banca Sella è tra i sette prestatori di servizi di pagamento italiani selezionati per partecipare al progetto pilota dell'Eurosistema sull'euro digitale, che coinvolgerà complessivamente oltre 35 operatori dell'area dell'euro.

Insieme a Banca Sella, prenderanno parte alla sperimentazione anche Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena, Isybank, Nexi Payments, Numia, Poste Italiane e UniCredit.

La significativa adesione italiana conferma l’interesse del mercato nazionale per il progetto e la varietà dell’ecosistema dei pagamenti nel nostro Paese. I soggetti selezionati rappresentano infatti le diverse componenti del settore, contribuendo a una sperimentazione ampia e diversificata, capace di valorizzare molteplici modelli operativi e di servizio.

Il progetto pilota prenderà avvio nella seconda metà del 2027 e avrà una durata di dodici mesi. Nel corso della sperimentazione sarà testata una versione "beta" dell'euro digitale, con l'obiettivo di verificarne le funzionalità tecniche, i processi operativi e l'esperienza d'uso. L’iniziativa rappresenta un passaggio fondamentale del percorso preparatorio all'eventuale introduzione dell'euro digitale e contribuirà a perfezionarne il disegno e le modalità di utilizzo. La decisione finale sull'emissione sarà assunta dal Consiglio direttivo della Banca Centrale Europea una volta completato il processo legislativo.

Nell'ambito del progetto, Banca Sella e gli altri prestatori di servizi di pagamento selezionati collaboreranno con la Banca d'Italia e con la Banca Centrale Europea per sperimentare l'utilizzo dell'euro digitale in un ambiente controllato. Le attività coinvolgeranno un numero limitato di utenti ed esercenti e consentiranno di testare diverse modalità di pagamento, sia online che offline, nonché i processi di integrazione con i servizi di pagamento esistenti.
