Banca Sella insieme ad altre 8 banche europee – ING, KBC, Danske Bank, DekaBank, UniCredit, SEB, CaixaBank e Raiffeisen Bank International – si sono unite per lanciare una stablecoin denominata in euro, conforme alla normativa MiCAR. Questo strumento di pagamento digitale, basato sulla tecnologia blockchain, si pone l’obiettivo di diventare uno standard di pagamento europeo affidabile all’interno dell’ecosistema digitale.

La stablecoin offrirà pagamenti e regolamenti quasi istantanei e a costi contenuti, garantendo accesso 24 ore su 24 e 7 giorni su 7 a pagamenti transfrontalieri efficienti e programmabili. Ciò consentirà di migliorare anche la gestione della supply chain e dei regolamenti di asset digitali, inclusi titoli e criptovalute.

La stablecoin sarà soggetta al “Regolamento sui mercati delle cripto-attività” (MiCAR) dell’Unione Europea e la prima emissione è prevista per la seconda metà del 2026. Il consorzio sulla stablecoin – composto dalle banche citate come membri fondatori – ha costituito una nuova società nei Paesi Bassi con l’obiettivo di ottenere la licenza come istituto di moneta elettronica, sotto la supervisione della Banca Centrale Olandese. Il consorzio è aperto all’ingresso di ulteriori banche. A breve è prevista la nomina di un CEO, previa approvazione delle autorità competenti.

L’iniziativa fornirà una concreta alternativa europea al mercato delle stablecoin dominato dagli Stati Uniti, contribuendo all’autonomia strategica dell’Europa nel settore dei pagamenti. Le singole banche potranno fornire servizi a valore aggiunto, come wallet dedicati alle stablecoin e loro custodia.
