La mostra Il riflesso di Leonardo. Sebastiano Ferrero e gli enigmi di un trittico rinascimentale, aperta al pubblico dal 2 ottobre 2025 al 3 maggio 2026 alla Pinacoteca Albertina di Belle Arti di Torino, mette in luce gli importanti legami storici e artistici tra la collezione della Pinacoteca Albertina, la tavola leonardesca del Museo del Territorio Biellese, le tavole laterali conservate presso Palazzo La Marmora e la città di Biella.

Il progetto, nato dall'impegno e dall'idea di Francesco Alberti La Marmora e organizzato dalla Direzione Artistica di Banca Patrimoni Sella & C., approfondisce la storia di un trittico enigmatico che vede protagonista la copia coeva, su tavola e in scala naturale, della leonardesca Vergine delle Rocce, e i due pannelli laterali raffiguranti Sebastiano Ferrero e i suoi figli, illustri committenti e protagonisti del Rinascimento piemontese e lombardo.

Due sale interamente dedicate alle complesse vicende storico-artistiche delle tavole, le cui letture si arricchiscono anche grazie al confronto diretto con alcune opere della collezione della Pinacoteca Albertina, offrono spunti per nuove interpretazioni e suggestioni. Ne sono esempio alcuni dei celebri “cartoni gaudenziani”, che ben dialogano nel riflesso di Leonardo. Donati alla Pinacoteca da Carlo Alberto di Savoia nel 1832, i cartoni sono il risultato di un lungo e articolato lavoro di bottega, sviluppatosi nel tempo fra Gaudenzio Ferrari, Gerolamo Giovenone e Bernardino Lanino nel vercellese e rivelano legami con la committenza della famiglia dei Ferrero nel XVI secolo.

Secondo gli studi sino ad ora condotti, proprio il potente generale delle finanze Sebastiano Ferrero potrebbe essere il committente della Vergine delle Rocce biellese. È noto, infatti, un documento redatto nel 1508 che affida la realizzazione di una copia della Vergine di Leonardo a Giovanni Ambrogio de Predis, artista vicinissimo al maestro che ebbe ruolo attivo anche nella realizzazione dell’originale. In quel frangente storico va cercata probabilmente anche l’origine della committenza della copia di Biella, la cui datazione e attribuzione sono state per lungo tempo dibattute.
È Francesco Alberti La Marmora, custode attento e appassionato di un variegato patrimonio storico artistico, a ricordarci la storia dell’attribuzione a Bernardino dei Conti dei tre elementi che costituiscono questo trittico, avvenuta per tappe: nel 1975 è riconosciuto come autore delle tavole laterali (Federico Zeri) e nel 2003 della copia della Vergine delle Rocce (Edoardo Villata).

Questa mostra presso l’Accademia Albertina fornisce ora l’occasione per dare continuità all’esperienza di “conservazione condivisa” in quanto nata grazie alla rinnovata collaborazione tra la Città di Biella e la famiglia Alberti La Marmora, che aveva già consentito nel 2019 di esporre il trittico ricomposto per la prima volta dopo cinquecento anni.

Grazie a una campagna diagnostica promossa da Banca Patrimoni Sella & C. che utilizza le più recenti tecnologie di indagine scientifica, questa esperienza consente di presentare al pubblico e agli studiosi gli ultimi risultati delle analisi condotte sulla Vergine biellese.

La mostra presso la Pinacoteca Albertina è visitabile tutti i giorni feriali e festivi dalle 10 alle 18 (ultimo ingresso alle 17.30) escluso il mercoledì che è il suo giorno di chiusura ed è compresa nel biglietto di ingresso del Museo, con la sua collezione.
